IPI Scholars Available to Discuss Gore/Bush Tax Plan and Prescription Drugs/Pharmaceutical Profits For Immediate Release For more information: Sonia Hoffman Wednesday, October 18, 2000 (888) 557-4IPI or shoffman@ipi.orgDallas, TX: Election fever has Americans scurrying to discover who has the best presidential Rx for their future on both the tax and prescription drug fronts—and they now have just 10 days to find out. There’s been plenty of talk and promises; what Americans need now are objective facts and figures. According to new studies by the Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI), presidential nominee George Bush’s plan ultimately improves the federal budget far better than Gore’s. For example, Bush would provide the most jobs (2 million v. Gore’s 200,000) and amply increase the stock of U.S. captial (6.8% v. Gore’s .03%). IPI also points out that while most price-control advocates are good at complaining about the high cost of drugs, they never take time to count the high cost of not having them. Many prescription drug companies are profitable, but not due to drug prices. They are profitable because they produce the medication doctors and people want. The answer then, is competition, not mandated government price-controls.
