Truth About Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is the primary source of carbon for life on Earth and enables photosynthesis in plants. Atmospheric CO2 also makes life possible by blocking damaging infrared light from the sun. We know that, in Earth’s geologic past, CO2 levels were much higher than those measured today, but we also know that CO2 levels today are higher than before the Industrial Revolution.

Today, the powers that be treat CO2  as the culprit behind climate change. The EPA controversially assumed the right to regulate CO2 levels as a pollutant, even though CO2 in no way meets the definition of a pollutant. Almost all efforts to deal with climate change today, both public and private, have as their goal to lessen the amount of CO2 caused by human activity in the atmosphere. But is that the right approach?

Earth Science Professor Matthew Wielicki is an expert on atmospheric CO2 and the role it plays in our planet’s ecology, and he he doesn’t believe CO2 levels need to be drastically reduced for humans to flourish. Formerly at the University of Alabama, Dr. Wielicki recently left Alabama for a variety of reasons, including the rise of illiberalism on university campuses and the push for “equity in science.” You may have seen one of his appearances on FoxNews (video here).

Please join the Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) on November 14 as we host Dr. Wielicki in a virtual policy discussion on the truth about atmospheric CO2, as well as his observations about what is happening on university campuses today. We hope you will join us.
