At Least China Is Upfront About It

  • RSS Feed
An article in the FT on China's new online Internet censor characters. Chilling, and registration is required.

Consider this quotation from the director of the program:

“He is just like a policeman, interactively moving along with you. Wherever you go, he is watching you,” Mr Xu says.

I have to wonder: Does it really matter that a country with such dissimilar values when compared to the West is becoming ascendent? If the 21st Century is to be the Chinese Century, does that matter? What are the ramifications of the dominance of a country that does not respect free speech, does not tolerate religion, etc.?
