Biden's Budget Blowout (Audio: Podcast)

Today the Biden administration released its budget proposal, and it’s a progressive doozy. $5.5 trillion in new tax hikes, trillions of dollars in new spending, punishment for fossil fuels and rewards for renewables, hammering the wealthy and handing out goodies for everyone else, it’s all in there. Of course most of it will never happen, because it’s a campaign document, not a serious budget proposal. With IPI Resident Scholar Dr. Merrill Matthews and IPI President Tom Giovanetti.

IPI Policy Basics: Every Law Should Have an Expiration Date (Audio: Podcast)

In legislation, “sunset” means that a law or agency or regulation has a built-in date at which it disappears in a poof of common sense unless specifically reauthorized by the legislature. This is a good idea that would prevent the continual accumulation of archaic, redundant and overlapping government functions. Sunset review is a forcing function that would create predictable opportunities to review, modify, modernize and streamline government functions, and to occasionally phase out unnecessary functions. With IPI President Tom Giovanetti and Resident Scholar Dr. Merrill Matthews.

The Public Health-ization of Policy (Audio: Podcast)

IPI President Tom Giovanetti wonders how the Biden administration knows it can schedule the cancellation of the federal Covid-19 emergency order in May, since that’s now how emergencies work. If you already know when it’s going to be over, it’s not an emergency. This prompts a discussion about the use of emergency orders by executive branch officers at both the state and federal levels to advance policy goals that can’t be achieved through legislation, and the likely need for legislatures to rein in the emergency powers of their executives. With IPI Resident Scholar Dr. Merrill Matthews.

Oh, Look, I Have a Stack of Classified Documents Here by My Corvette (Audio: Podcast)

You can’t make this stuff up. Are the Trump and Biden classified document scandals different in any material way? Did the Biden people think they could keep this quiet? With IPI Resident Scholar Dr. Merrill Matthews and IPI President Tom Giovanetti.

House Republicans Should Just Say No to Revenge Impeachments (Audio: Podcast)

Revenge impeachments by the new Republican House will be a terrible waste of political capital, energy and time, because they won’t succeed in the Senate and will be seen by voters as just more partisan infighting. Legitimate investigations and oversight is another matter entirely. Merrill Matthews, Tom Giovanetti.

The Clear Pattern that Emerged from the 2022 Midterm Election (Audio: Podcast)

There was no red wave, but there should have been. Actually, a certain profile of Republican candidate won big, while another profile of Republican candidate dramatically underperformed. The difference: Association with Donald Trump. Tom Giovanetti, Merrill Matthews.

The 25th Amendment and Biden; the 14th Amendment and Trump (Audio: Podcast)

Under what circumstances might President Biden face removal from the White House under the 25th Amendment, and under what circumstances might Donald J. Trump be barred from holding public office again under the 14th Amendment? And how lousy is it that we have to even consider those possibilities? With IPI President Tom Giovanetti and Resident Scholar Dr. Merrill Matthews.

How Wokeness Sucks All the Fun out of Life (Audio: Podcast)

IPI President Tom Giovanetti and Commentary Magazine Associate Editor Noah Rothman discuss Noah’s recent book “The Rise of the New Puritans: Fighting Back Against Progressives’ War on Fun.” Lefties used to be the “anything goes, don’t judge me” crowd, but today the progressive woke left politicizes everything and sucks all the fun out of food, sports, dating and sex, even gardening! Noah explains how and why this change happened, how it affects American society, and how it’s harming everything from how we eat and play to how we love and form relationships. It’s a great read and a great discussion.

Is a 25th Amendment Removal in Joe Biden's Future? (Audio: Podcast)

IPI Resident Scholar discusses his recent piece in The Hill raising questions about President Biden’s obvious slippage with IPI President Tom Giovanetti. Because there is little to no partisan advantage to either party to remove Biden, raising the question isn’t about partisan politics but rather is about the good of the nation, and of the free world. And it’s not as if a 25th Amendment removal wasn’t almost a constant topic in the media during the Trump administration. Double-standard much?
